Newcastle United have just launched a bid to sign a very highly-rated attacker on the continent.

The Tynesiders have endured a topsy-turvy start to the summer transfer window having had a late PSR scare towards the end of June.

They managed to avoid a potential points deduction in the end but it meant they sold promising talents Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.

Eddie Howe revealed that he was frustrated about losing the duo but glad his top-rated assets remained at St James’ Park despite links elsewhere.

With that said, Newcastle are now looking forward and have just lodged a bid for an exciting attacker.

Newcastle submit £25m bid for Ferran Torres

Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres throughout the window and now it appears they’ve formalised their interest with a bid.

According to Fichajes, The Magpies have lodged a £25m bid for Torres, though, at this stage it remains to be seen if that’ll be enough to sanction his sale.

Barca are intent on signing Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams who’s expected to cost around £47m, so they’ll likely need to raise funds to facilitate that move.

There were suggestions earlier in the window that Torres rejected the idea of making the switch to Tyneside but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Ferran Torres statistics

Torres, who has been labelled ‘world class’ per Manchester City News, netted 11 times whilst laying on four assists last term.

The 24-year-old is extremely versatile as he operated in a number of different roles across the forward line.

Torres plies his trade off both flanks and even as a centre-forward, so he’d provide Howe with some much-needed depth in multiple areas.
