Newcastle have got to consider Tottenham star, reportedly up for sale – TBR View

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sell Erik Lamela this summer for a fee in the region of £20million and Newcastle United have got to consider luring the Argentine winger to St. James’ Park – especially if Mauricio Pochettino joins.

Lamela, 28, has been on the fringes at Tottenham this season – clocking up 27 appearances in all competitions but starting only 13 times and completing 90 minutes in just six instances. He has a contract at Spurs until the summer of 2022.

The Star claim Spurs are open to selling Lamela this summer, with the club looking to bring Willian to the club from Chelsea. The report states that Daniel Levy is willing to do business for the ex-Roma star in the region of £20million.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are expected to be one of only a handful of teams able to spend big this summer – if a reported takeover goes through in the coming weeks. A winger is likely to be targeted, so why not one with huge Premier League experience?

Lamela would be ideal. Hard-working and with four appearances shy of 150 Premier League outings to his name, he would be a top addition to Newcastle’s side – especially if Pochettino moves to Newcastle, given he worked with Lamela at Spurs.

The Sun claim that Pochettino, who was sacked by Tottenham last November, is Newcastle’s potential new owners top target if they choose to get rid of Steve Bruce – with the latter’s future in doubt, as is the norm with a takeover.

The duo had a strong connection at Tottenham, with Lamela and Pochettino sharing the same nationality. It makes utter sense for Newcastle to sign Lamela, and surely if they do, that would help lure Pochettino to Tyneside.
