Newcastle United have agreed personal terms with Atlanta playmaker Miguel Almiron ahead of a January move, according to Ed Aarons of the Guardian.
It has been widely-known since November that Almiron is the Magpies’ top January target, but progress has stalled on a deal as the window opened.
With Newcastle continuing to struggle and Mike Ashley’s historic inability to get deals over the line – especially when spending big sums is concerned – it has been a nervous wait for the long-suffering supporters to see if he would come.
But with personal terms agreed, it appears as if Newcastle can offer the playmaker a package he is happy with, and he is also willing to move to the north east.

That is a huge step forward for Newcastle, and while it still remains to be seen whether Ashley will stump up the cash for a transfer fee, Almiron’s desire to join the Magpies may help soften Atlanta’s stance.
Either way, agreeing the terms of Almiron’s contract removes a major roadblock in the way of his arrival this month and also indicates that Newcastle are still moving forward on a deal that it was easy to believe had dwindled away out of view.
