Florian Lejeune recently suffered a season-ending injury during Newcastle’s home match against Crystal Palace earlier this month.
That’s a blow for the Magpies because the defender is a steady presence in their backline and could do with a stroke of luck after the rotten fortune he has had with injuries during his time in the north east.
Newcastle need the 27-year-old back as soon as possible and they have been given a major boost on that score, by journalist Ciaran Kelly on Twitter.
Lejeune is up and walking around unaided just days after the surgery he had on his ACL injury, which is a staggering achievement and underlines how keen he is to return.
That’s remarkable but Lejeune knows what it takes to battle back from a serious injury and appears keen to do so again in order to throw his weight behind the Magpies bid to push onto the next level.
The supporters should be pleased to see it, at a time when good news is needed with uncertainty still reigning over Rafa Benitez’s signature – which will essentially make or break their summer and their hopes of progression next term.
Lejeune will hope to take to the pitch next season – regardless of who is in charge – and he is going the right way about getting out there as soon as he can.
