Newcastle loanee Salomon Rondon wants to remain at St James’ Park next season, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.
The towering hitman is on loan from West Brom and has proved a hit with the Toon faithful due to his constant work-rate and adept hold-up play.
But Newcastle’s recent transfer record is patchy – and Rondon is older than the usual profile of player Mike Ashley wants to buy – which may have some fans fearing the striker will leave in the summer.
Rondon has reportedly done his bit to allay those fears, making it clear that he wants to stay in the north east if there is an opportunity to do so.

Rondon said: “[Newcastle] know what I want and what my family want. I have spoken with them and made it clear. If there is an opportunity for me to be here – I’ll stay here 100%.
“It’s a pleasure to be here and my family are settled and happy to be here. I play with the number 9 on my back and it’s a pleasure for me. If I get to stay here then I’ll be at a beautiful place.”
Newcastle could still do with a more prolific partner or alternative for Rondon but he has done as well as can be expected this season and keeping him would be a boost for Rafa Benitez next term.
His commitment to the club is only going to endear him to the fans even more and making his loan deal permanent looks to work for all parties – it’s just down to Ashley to get the job done now.
