The Saudi Public Investment Fund have released stunning stadium blueprints that will dazzle Newcastle United fans ahead of the redevelopment of St James’ Park.

Since PIF bought Newcastle for £305m in October 2021, they have been searching for ways to drastically expand their revenue base in order to give them more headroom in terms of PSR/FFP.

Commercial revenue has soared in the last three seasons, but the Premier League’s Fair Market Value rules place a limit on how much cash they can generate from sponsorship at this stage.

PIF have therefore looked at how they can better monetise Newcastle‘s remarkable fanbase, who make St James’ Park one of the most feared away destinations for clubs in the Premier League and beyond.

In a recent media appearance, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales revealed that they are still awaiting the result of a feasibility study centred on the redevelopment of the stadium.

Both a revamp of St James’ Park and a move to a new site altogether have been mooted as options.

And the latest development in PIF’s football masterplan may provide an indication of the kind of stadium Newcastle fans can expect to call home in future years.

The takeover of Newcastle three years ago was PIF’s boldest move yet in the world of sports investment.

The sovereign wealth fund has since invested billions, not just in football but also gold, combat sports, motor sports, tennis and more.

However, it is with football that the Saudis believe they have the best chance of realising their ambition to expand their influence in the West.

Now, it has been all but confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup – they are running unopposed in the contest organised by FIFA.

Football is hugely popular in the Kingdom, but it has always been presumed that Saudi would need to massively expand their infrastructure to host the biggest event in the world.

As relayed by BBC Sport, the bidding party have now unveiled plans for 11 new stadia across the nation, as well as the development of several more.

Either way, the investment displayed will give Newcastle fans a glimpse of what they might be able to expect when the plan for St James’ Park is finalised.

TBR Analysis: How much can Newcastle earn from expanding St James’ Park?

Newcastle currently earn around £40m per season in matchday income from their 52,000-seater stadium.

it is not yet know how much they want to increase capacity, but any development would surely see at least 60,000 fans able to watch the Magpies play – at a conservative estimate.

That would see matchday income rise north of £50m, with a new pricing structure and increased emphasis on hospitality taken into account.

In reality, the commercial opportunities that a full revamp of the stadium would provide mean the true amount will likely be far higher.

For context, both Tottenham and Arsenal generated £100m from their 60,000-plus stadiums.

Although the lack of London premium might make those figures out of reach, any upgrades to St James’ Park will be transformative in terms of PSR.
