Reports have suggested that Andy Carroll has played his last game for West Ham United after going under the knife to correct an ankle injury – and Newcastle fans want him back.
The Mirror claim the 30-year-old has been forced to undergo surgery to correct the injury. With his contract at West Ham expiring at the end of June, he looks set to leave West Ham this summer.
Carroll has only played 14 times this season it look as though the England international has played his last game for the Hammers, in the form of a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on February 27.
Since then, he has been sidelined with the ankle problem. Even when fit, he has has been made to wait on the sidelines behind the likes of Javier Hernandez, Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic.
Carroll, who joined West Ham on loan from Liverpool in the summer of 2012 before completing a permanent £15million (BBC) move to the London Stadium a year later. He scored just 34 goals in 142 games.
Newcastle fans reacted to the news that Carroll is set to have played his last game for the Hammers. Many Toon fans want the target man to move back to St. James’ Park – eight years after leaving – on a pay-as-you-play deal.
On a performance based contract? Yup!

Absolutely take him back on a pay as you play deal, but far too injury prone to offer him anything more.

Pay and play deal is ok as he is unlikely to play much, if at all.

Back-up option, yes. Starter, no.

Yes. On a reduced wage with enhanced on appearances. Even he would accept that after this season !

I'd snap his hand off. As long as it's a pay as you play contract. He didn't get in to the England squad and score because they liked his ponytail!

Pay as you play/score deal on a low basic?
