Newcastle fans want Florian Lejeune to return against Crystal Palace

Newcastle United host Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter want to see defender Florian Lejeune play.

The 28-year-old defender has not played a senior minute since April due to a serious knee injury, but has been returning to fitness in the past couple of months.

He made the bench for the first time under Steve Bruce last weekend during the 1-0 defeat to Burnley and it seems like a comeback is closer than ever.

The Frenchman is a quality centre-back that is great passing with both feet and has a tremendous presence, but unfortunately has been unlucky with injuries in the past few years.

There is plenty of competition for the three defensive positions at St James’ Park and Lejeune is having to be patient waiting for his first opportunity under Bruce.

Newcastle sit 11th in the table after a fairly positive start to life under a new manager, but upcoming opponents are above them in the table.

The Magpies lost at home to Palace last season and drew away at Selhurst Park in the league meetings.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media have suggested that Lejeune is given his first start of the season at the weekend in a reshuffle at the back.
