Newcastle fans unimpressed as Rolando Aarons plays for Sheffield Wednesday

Rolando Aarons struggled for Sheffield Wednesday on Monday night as he played the entire 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw against bitter rivals Sheffield United – and Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter.

The 23-year-old joined Wednesday on loan in January, along with Achraf Lazaar. The latter has since picked up an injury and was unavailable to the Steel City derby.

But Aarons, who spent the first half of the season on loan with Czech side Slovan Liberec, made his sixth appearance for the Owls and looked slightly off the pace.

Though he was unable to help his side make the breakthrough, a point for Steve Bruce’s side is impressive. That is because Chris Wilder’s Blades sit as high as third place in the Championship table.

Aarons has failed to feature for Newcastle since December 2017, when he faced Manchester City in a 1-0 loss. He has a contract at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2021 – which Spotrac claim is worth £14,000 a week.

Newcastle fans reacted to Aarons’ display in the Championship fixture, and the majority were unimpressed with the England youth international. One fan said he was “dreadful”.
