Newcastle fans take to Twitter as Ryan Fraser pulls out of Scotland squad
Newcastle United fans haven’t had things their way so far this season.
The Magpies have picked up just one point from their opening three Premier League games and now face a couple of injury woes.
It has already been confirmed that Callum Wilson could be out for ‘a number of weeks’ (Shield Gazette) and now Ryan Fraser has withdrawn from the Scotland squad.
The 27-year-old winger played the full 90 minutes against Denmark last week but didn’t feature on the weekend against Moldova.
Now, ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Austria the former Bournemouth man has withdrawn from the Scotland squad.
Fraser hasn’t been a key member of Steve Bruce’s side so far this season.
In the Premier League the winger has cameoed off the bench in all three games without making a start.
However, with Wilson now out injured the attacking options available to Bruce are becoming more limited.
It will be even harder for the St. James’ Park faithful to start picking up points if both Wilson and Fraser face lengthy layoffs.
The more optimistic amongst the Geordies will point to the fact that Fraser hasn’t been confirmed to be injured, instead that he has just pulled out of the squad.
Whatever the circumstances around Fraser’s Scotland absence, hopefully he will be available for selection at club level as soon as possible.
After the international break Newcastle face a trip to Old Trafford, a game that they won’t be looking forward to.
Their fixtures do get mildly easier after that as they host Leeds before travelling to Watford and then Wolves.
Hopefully Fraser can be fit and ready for some of those games, bit time will tell as we wait to what happens when the winger returns to his club.
