Newcastle fans suggest club try sign Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama

Tottenham are reportedly looking to offload midfielder Victor Wanyama on deadline day – ands one Newcastle United fans on Twitter have suggested the club try sign him.

According to Sky Sports on their transfer centre blog (August 8, 10:33am), Spurs are looking to move the 28-year-old on and are struggling to find a destination.

The report explains that Bournemouth were keen before they signed Phillip Billing, while Brighton and Burnley are chasing alternative targets despite being possible suitors.

It’s unclear on if Spurs want a loan or permanent exit, but they are trying to find a move on Thursday’s deadline.

Wanyama has been with the North London club since 2016 and was impressive at the start, but injuries have interfered with his career and he played just 22 senior games last season across all competitions.

The 28-year-old has found himself pushed further down the pecking order at Spurs following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele and his chances of regular minutes look slim.

A selection of Newcastle supporters have reacted to the Wanyama speculation by urging the club to try bring him to St James’ Park.

The defensive midfielder can perform at the elite level on his day, but has regressed during the last year and isn’t quite the player he once was.

There is definitely still time for him to rediscover his peak form, but it would take an extremely late move out of nowhere on deadline day for that to be in the North East with Steve Bruce’s team.
