Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff singled out Matt Ritchie for praise in a recent interview with NUFC TV. Longstaff recalled the speculation surrounding his future in the summer and said that Ritchie helped him through it.
Longstaff has only just broken into the Newcastle first-team but that did not stop talk of a £50m move to Manchester United (Sky Sports News). The 21-year-old admitted this “distracted” him a bit but added that Ritchie helped him through it.

Speaking to NUFC TV, Longstaff said: “I speak to Matty Ritchie a lot, he’s someone I lean on in the squad. He tends to keep us grounded and he’s always there with good bits of advice.”
Ritchie is an underappreciated player in the Newcastle line-up. He is a model professional and rarely lets the team down. Operating in midfield or in a new left-wing-back role, the 30-year-old’s commitment, work rate and impact in the dressing room cannot be underestimated.
Here are some Newcastle fans discussing just how important Ritchie is in light of Longstaff’s comments.
