Newcastle fans react to reports that Joselu is edging closer to joining Alaves

Striker Joselu is moving closer to leaving Newcastle United to join La Liga outfit Alaves, according to a report by Spanish outlet AS.

They report that his arrival back in Spain is almost complete, which would bring to an end a Magpies career that started when he joined from Stoke in 2017.

The £40,000-a-week (Spotrac) hitman was perhaps the most striking example of the Magpies’ refusal to invest enough money in their squad during the modern era.

The Spaniard just was simply never good enough to cut it in the English top flight, let alone at a club with expectations like Newcastle – even Rafa Benitez couldn’t get much of a tune out of him.

The reactions of the Newcastle fans were a mixture of genuine relief that a player who ranks as among the worst their club has had in the modern era is on his way out and well wishes for someone who tried hard but was out of his depth.
