Newcastle fans react to reports Shelvey could be set to leave during the summer

Newcastle United are considering allowing Jonjo Shelvey to leave the club this summer, with a bid from West Ham United on the table, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

They claim that the Hammers are willing to pay £20m to bring the midfielder back down to London and Rafa Benitez may be tempted to accept the offer if Mike Ashley offers him assurances that he will be handed the money to improve his Magpies squad.

The situation is unfolding amid the backdrop of uncertainty around the future of Benitez at the club, as the report claims that talks over a contract that extends beyond the end of this season are yet to get underway.

Sean Longstaff’s emergence this season has shunted Shelvey down the Newcastle pecking order, lessening Benitez’s reliance on the flighty midfielder who has always seemed at odds with the Spaniard’s staunch insistence on discipline.

But the Newcastle fans cannot agree on whether selling Shelvey would be a good idea. Many of them still want the creativity that he provides in a squad that is generally workmanlike.

Some would sell for £20m if he isn’t going to be a fixture in the team, while others feel his inconsistency means he is expendable.

I'd love to keep Hayden and Shelvey and wouldn't mind keeping Diame but only on a 1 year deal. They all graft their asses off every time they're on the pitch. Hayden has turned into a gem recently but he wants to go so he'll go. Shelvey still has the game winning pass in him.

You would have to choose keeping shelvey and letting the other two go, hayden wants to go and diame isn't getting any younger. Shelvey also came out recently to say he's willing to do whatever to get his place back so he still has the commitment.
