In perhaps one of the more surprising rumours of the January transfer window, the Sunday People (19/1; page 49) reported that Newcastle United had seen a loan bid for Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury rejected by the Foxes.
Choudhury has made 13 league appearances for Brendan Rodgers’s men this season. He has started six times in the top flight for the high-flyers.

You could understand therefore, why some of their Premier League rivals may be tempted to try their luck with a loan bid.
However, what many will not have seen coming is the Sunday People (19/1; page 49) reporting that the Magpies are one of the clubs to have made a bid for the youngster.

The People reported at the weekend that Steve Bruce’s men and Burnley had seen loan offers snubbed by Leicester.
And Newcastle’s reported interest has left a lot of the Toon Army stumped.
Choudhury was the player who injured Matt Ritchie when the two sides met at St James’ Park in August. It was a nasty challenge from the midfielder, and Ritchie did not play again for the rest of the year.
A couple of fans on Twitter have actually suggested that he would have been a good signing. He does appear to have a lot of potential. And those supporters would have seemingly been open to the idea of a deal if the squad were on board.
However, plenty have expressed some disbelief. They cannot see Bruce making a move given what went on earlier in the season. And there appears to be some relief that he is seemingly set to stay at the King Power Stadium.
