Newcastle fans react to report that Ritchie has been told he can leave this summer

Newcastle United’s Matt Ritchie is not going to be offered a new deal by the club, raising the possibility he’ll leave this summer, according to the Sun.

Ritchie has played for much of this season out of position at left wing-back, but is reportedly not going to get an extended contract because of the club’s policy on older players.

The report says that the Scotland international has had a discussion with Rafa Benitez, after which it was made clear that he was free to look for a new club in the summer.

Newcastle fans took to Twitter to respond to the rumours. Some don’t believe that Benitez would let a player who has played so much this season leave the club.

Others just don’t want him to leave because of his performances over recent seasons, but there are some who feel Newcastle need to upgrade.
