Newcastle fans react to report that club want to ramp up bid for Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle United are ready to step up their interest in Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin, according to a report by French outlet L’Equipe.

The report says the Ligue 1 side want 25 million euros (£22.5 million) for the speedster, but Newcastle want to pay 15 million (£13.5 million) plus potential add-ons – and feel emboldened that their lower offer will prevail.

That’s apparently because despite his obvious talent, Saint-Maximin’s manager Patrick Vieira is willing to lose him at the right price because of his attitude.

The report says that Lee Charnley is keen on the player – basically because of the cut-price potential – but Steve Bruce is not keen because of the attitude concerns.

And after a summer of inertia in the transfer market, Newcastle supporters on Twitter are concerned that the club is going to break their duck by getting a player in below market value but not caring about his attitude problems.

That’s the approach that has got Newcastle into trouble before and many supporters appear to feel that it’s better to sign nobody at all rather than players who will rock the boat.

Many fans are panicking over the link to the Frenchman, and are worried about Saint-Maximin coming in – as well as their negotiators lowballing once again…
