Newcastle United have been quoted an asking price of £30m if they want to sign Chelsea loanee Kenedy this summer, according to the Chronicle.
They report that means that Rafa Benitez will snub the prospect of a permanent move for the Brazilian, who has not had the same impact during his second loan spell at St James’ Park as he did in his first, last season.
That £30m would eclipse the £21m the Guardian reported Newcastle paid for Miguel Almiron on deadline day this year, breaking a transfer record that had stood since Michael Owen joined the club in 2005.
The odds on Newcastle – whose frugality is well-publicised – breaking their transfer record again for a player who has been unable to force a regular starting place this season and has one year left on his contract look remarkably slim.
Newcastle fans on Twitter do not seem impressed by Chelsea’s demands either, and many of them feel that Kenedy is absolutely not worth that kind of money.
We’ve put together the best of the incredulous reaction from the north east, as the supporters encourage their club to funnel their investment elsewhere this summer…
To be honest I'd be reluctant to take him for £5 million.

I would only pursue on a free, otherwise back to Chelsea's reserved. Nowhere near Premier League quality this season

He isn't worth it. Sure players can have bad seasons, but you would've expected better after what happened in the second half of last season. Would rather use that money on Rondon.

After last season I'd have paid £20 mil, after this season he's not worth £20, played out his skin last year as he was hoping to impress the Brazilian coach for a World cup place, this year he just isn't interested.

30M pesos, I’m sure they meant

Kennedy hasn't been the player he was the season before… £30million, sorry no way for a player that couldn't get in the Chelsea 1st team and cant get a place on the bench at #nufc.
