Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has confirmed defender Jetro Willems has been ruled out for the rest of season.
The Dutch international ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against Chelsea at the weekend and was stretchered off at St. James’ Park.

The scenes prompted major concerns over Willems, and Bruce has now delivered the news Magpies supporters have been dreading.
He said in a press conference (Sky Sports): “It’s what we feared; he’s ruptured his anterior cruciate and will miss the rest of the season.”
It’s a big shame for Willems, who had been enjoying a really good spell with Newcastle on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Arguably he’s proven to be the club’s best acquisition of last summer, but he won’t now get the chance to add to his 20 appearances.

Willems has wowed the Newcastle faithful with several attacking displays as a left wing-back.
His desire to bomb forward has seen him chip in with goals against Liverpool and Manchester City, and three assists across all competitions.
The bad news doesn’t stop at Willems for Newcastle, with Paul Dummett also being ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury.
