Newcastle fans have been reacting to some interesting comments made by Miguel Almiron’s agent.

The playmaker from Paraguay would apparently have left the club this year had it not been for the global health pandemic, according to Daniel Campos.

Almiron only joined Newcastle in January 2019 for around £20 million (ESPN), which was a club record at the time.

The South American took some time to adapt to the English top-flight, but found his feet eventually and is now considered by most as one of Newcastle’s best players.

Steve Bruce has used Almiron fairly sparingly this term, which has led to regular clamour from supporters.

There is feeling among some that Bruce isn’t managing Almiron correctly, and Campos has now delivered a delivered some rather controversial comments.

He told radio station Futgol970 (quoted by Goal): “Miguel Almiron was being observed by Atletico Madrid but no offer was made. When everything returns to normal, Miguel will take a leap in quality.

“Miguel’s work rate at Newcastle and Paraguay has been great. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, he would have been elsewhere. Perhaps he would like to play for a team that has a lot of possession. Maybe in June, he’ll make that jump.”

On social media, the reaction was mixed.

Some supporters were angry to hear such comments being made by an agent, while others actually think the situation is somewhat understandable:
