Newcastle suffered a 2-0 defeat away from home against Aston Villa last night thanks to goals from Conor Hourihane and Anwar El Ghazi.
It was a tough watch for Magpies supporters who saw their side struggle badly to create anything in the way of attacking invention.
Joelinton was isolated on his own up front for much of the evening and that perhaps offers some mitigation for a performance which attracted criticism from the fans on Twitter.
But he also failed to put himself around as effectively as Salomon Rondon did last season, with the Venezuelan an expert at making the best of limited service.

His pace, work-rate, attacking runs and composure all came under fire from the supporters on Twitter after another toothless performance.
It must be tough leading the line alone for this Magpies side but Joelinton is making it look even harder. He appears like a wideman trying to play through the middle and has not been prolific in his career.
Until Steve Bruce’s side find a regular route to goal, it’s going to be a long season for Newcastle and more performances like last night’s lie in wait.
