Newcastle fans react to Jamal Lewis’ Magpies debut

Newcastle United kicked off the 2020/21 with a 2-0 victory over West Ham United.

The Magpies defeated the Hammers courtesy of goals from new signings Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick at the London Stadium.

It is the first time Newcastle have won their opening game since 2012, and confidence will be high going into next weekend’s clash with Brighton, with Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup to come first.

Wilson is the man getting most of the headlines today, with the £20 million man (BBC Sport) proving to be a constant danger for West Ham.

Fans have very high hopes for the 28-year-old given the struggles the club have had scoring goals since their return to the Premier League.

One other player who did catch the eye at the London Stadium was someone who has also just joined the club.

Jamal Lewis – who cost an initial £15 million which could rise to £20 million (BBC Sport) – was very lively down the left for the visitors.

The former Norwich City defender offered plenty going forwards, and looks like he could link up well with Allan Saint-Maximin in the future.
