Newcastle United were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Monday (BBC Sport).
The Magpies missed a chance to pull further away from the relegation zone, after Cardiff City were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at the weekend.

Rafa Benitez’s side were unable to cause the Gunners any real trouble in the game, with the north Londoners easily dispatching the visitors thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette.
Newcastle remain seven points clear of trouble, but may be looking over their shoulder with 18th-placed Cardiff having a game in hand – although Neil Warnock’s side face a testing trip to Manchester City on Wednesday.
Encouragingly for Newcastle, they have Southampton, Brighton and Fulham all to play which represents a real chance for a good haul of points.
They will certainly need to play better than they did against Arsenal though, even if the hosts were bang in the mood.

Newcastle fans react
A number of players came in for criticism after the game, but one man who bore the brunt of a lot of the fans’ frustrations was Jamaal Lascelles.
The captain put in a shaky performance, and didn’t cover himself in much glory for the Lacazette goal.
Some Newcastle supporters were able to look beyond his role as captain, and some clamoured for the return of Fabian Schar:
