Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle missed a golden opportunity to get off the mark this season.
Gayle spurned a late chance which was set up by Joelinton. With Newcastle trailing 1-0 at Turf Moor, this would have brought them level. But instead, Burnley kept a clean sheet and won 1-0.
Chris Wood’s header gave the Clarets the lead in a tight game. Newcastle tried to get back into the game but, once again, they were lacking that killer instinct up top.
Newcastle’s striker woes

This season, Newcastle’s strikers have managed just one goal. Joelinton scored early in the season but has not added to his tally since. Andy Carroll and Gayle are yet to get off the mark.
Both Carroll and Gayle had glorious chances to score yesterday. But it was Gayle who missed the best opportunity. The diminutive striker, who came on in the 71st minute, poked wide from inside the six-yard box after good work from Joelinton.
Newcastle fans slammed Gayle on social media for that miss. Here are some of the best tweets about it.
