DeAndre Yedlin ended a four-and-a-half year spell at St James’ Park on Monday – and some Newcastle United fans on Twitter expressed their disappointment with the decision to offload him.

The 27-year-old has completed a deadline day move to Turkish club Galatasaray.

With Yedlin’s contract with the Magpies due to expire in the summer, the defender was allowed to exit on a permanent basis yesterday to pursue regular football elsewhere.

Yedlin, who joined Newcastle back in 2016, leaves the club after making 125 senior appearances for them.

The American right-back is someone that played an important role during his first season to help them achieve promotion from the Championship to the top-flight.

He is a speedster that can be great attacking from the full-back position, plus his ability to recover defensively always stood out.

But he slipped down the pecking order at Newcastle, playing just 10 first-team games this season, with only six coming in the Premier League.

A selection of Toon supporters feel like Yedlin’s exit may be a mistake this month.

With the defender now playing in Turkish football, it leaves Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth as the first-team options for Newcastle boss Steve Bruce at right-back.
