Newcastle fans react to Callum Wilson performance in defeat to Sheffield United
Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 away to Sheffield United on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter claimed they felt sorry for their centre-forward Callum Wilson.
The Magpies put in a poor performance at Bramall Lane, as they gifted bottom of the table Sheffield United their first win of the Premier League season.
Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United team had earned just two points from their opening 17 league games of the season, but they’ve now more than doubled that tally courtesy of Billy Sharp’s second-half penalty.
Newcastle had to play with a man less in the second period after Ryan Fraser was sent off on the stroke of half-time, but they were second best throughout the first-half regardless.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media discussed Wilson after his midweek display.
There were many who placed no blame at the striker’s door for the result, but instead they were feeling sorry for his lack of supply.
The 28-year-old centre-forward battled away like usual and found himself feeding off scraps for large spells despite playing against a fragile opponent.
Wilson has scored eight goals in the league since his arrival in the summer from Bournemouth, but has a sizeable job leading the line by himself.
Why when I look at Callum Wilson do I automatically feel guilty because he chose to come to #nufc

Our midfield isn’t strong enough not to give Wilson support upfront #NUFC

Callum Wilson walks straight off at the end, he has every right to as well by the way. He’s been completely hung out to dry tonight thanks to Bruce’s choice of formation and line-up. Bruce has to go, NOW. #nufc #BruceOut #RESIGN

Wilson needs to go it alone there is nobody worth passing to #NUFC

Any chance of a few more attacking players to help Wilson? #nufc

Get your boots on @mickquinn1089 and give Wilson a hand up top.

Now we'll have to resort to every man behind the ball and long hits up to an isolated Wilson. So no different to how we played before. Steve Bruce is ruining our club just as badly as Mike Ashley
