Newcastleโ€™s senior side started the Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal, in a match they might have got something from with a shade more attacking ambition.

But their Under 23 side got a more comprehensive thrashing yesterday, as they were beaten 6-0 against Reading in a match that saw Owen Bailey also pick up a red card.

Neil Redfearn was at one point looking like a potential contender to lead the senior side into the season, but presided over this awful result for the development side.

Thereโ€™s a well-established mood of doom and gloom around Newcastle these days and it does not look as if the future will be much brighter, based on this result anyway.

They took to Twitter in the aftermath of the result to take a swipe at his management, as well as the way the club in general has been left to degenerate into disrepair.

The supporters were not impressed at all about the scoreline and were not shy about venting their criticism online.
