It appears that Steve Bruce’s struggles to fully convince the Newcastle United supporters that he is the man to take the club forward will suffer a significant setback if one particular transfer report from the weekend comes to fruition this summer.

Bruce has done well during his time at St James’ Park. The Magpies look to be in little danger of being relegated this season. And they booked their place in the quarter-final of the FA Cup before the season was halted.

But it appears that Bruce is considering a decision that may undo some of his good work on Tyneside.

The Daily Mirror reported over the weekend that the Magpies are one of the sides interested in signing Phil Jones this summer.

The Mirror suggested that Jones could be available for £12 million at the end of the season after largely falling out of favour at Old Trafford.

The report noted that Bruce is a big fan of the 28-year-old, who is also attracting attention from West Ham.

Unfortunately for Bruce, it appears that few of the Newcastle fans are big supporters of Jones.

‘Why?’

Plenty have taken to social media to suggest that a move would be a bad idea. Several have pointed out just how much depth Newcastle already have at the back.

They believe that a bid for Jones would be unnecessary. It is suggested that he would not get into the current team.

And thus, they certainly appear to be hoping that there is little in the rumours.

Here is how some of the supporters responded to the reported interest in Jones…
