Newcastle United fans have been expressing their relief on social media, after there was a positive update on the condition of defender Fabian Schar.
The 28-year-old was forced off during the Magpies’ 3-1 win against Burnley on Saturday, and there have been fears the star could have been set for another spell on the sidelines.
Schar missed a number of games for Newcastle last term after injuring his shoulder against Tottenham Hotspur in July.
Newcastle have allayed fears the issue is anything serious by informing supporters that Schar has been training with Switzerland and is in contention to feature for his country against Croatia tonight.
The Toon Army will be hoping he can come through unscathed if he does take to the field, and that he can also come through Nations League games against Spain and Germany.
The development is a real boost for Newcastle, with Schar arguably Steve Bruce’s best current defender when everyone is fit.
The former Deportivo La Coruna star has been a very popular figure at the club since signing in 2018, and his form could be key for Newcastle in their bid to stick around in the top half of the Premier League table.
On social media, most fans expressed their delight as the club issued the latest on Schar, with a couple slightly concerned:
