Newcastle United came from two goals down to beat north east rivals Middlesbrough 3-2 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday – and Toon supporters reacted on Twitter to the news that Yoshinori Muto started that comeback.

Championship side Middlesbrough scored two first-half goals through George Saville and Britt Assombalonga as Jonathan Woodgate’s side took to the field against Steve Bruce’s men in order to prepare for next week’s resumption.

However, Newcastle ran out winners against former Toon defender Woodgate with a 3-2 win. A comeback started by Muto was finished off thanks to goals from Japanese ace Muto – as well as strikes for Miguel Almiron and Joelinton.

Newcastle posted a video of Muto’s goal on Twitter. The 27-year-old picked the ball up midway through the Boro half and with the Teesside club’s defence back-peddling, Muto squeezed a shot into the corner from 20 yards.

Muto has endured a difficult spell at Newcastle. Signed by Rafa Benitez in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £10million (Mail) from German club Mainz, Muto has since managed just 27 appearances and scored only two goals for the club.

Under Steve Bruce, Muto has managed just nine appearances and started only four times. But Toon fans responded to his goal on Twitter, and many have suggested that he could finally start to show why he cost a nine-figure sum.
