There has probably been a few times since Javier Manquillo arrived in 2017 when Newcastle United fans would have welcomed the prospect of selling him. But recent reports that West Ham United want the defender in January have not gone down well with supporters at all.
Manquillo has not always impressed the supporters. He immediately faced an uphill battle winning over the Toon Army after arriving following a loan spell at Sunderland.

Some of his form has led to criticism. But plenty of Newcastle supporters are now adamant that the 25-year-old must not be sold in January.
The Northern Echo reported this week that the Hammers were planning to make a £5 million bid for the full-back. His contract at St James’ Park expires at the end of the season.

It is perhaps not a move that would capture the imagination of most West Ham fans. But after a recent upturn in form, it is clear that plenty of Newcastle fans want him to stay beyond January.
He has been excellent for Steve Bruce’s side in recent weeks. And it has been suggested that he has to be considered the club’s best right-back.
Some fans have joked that West Ham should be given the chance to sign Emil Krafth. But the likes of DeAndre Yedlin and Jamie Sterry have also been backed to make moves ahead of Manquillo.
For Hammers supporters, the reaction may provide reason for encouragement if a move does take place. It would appear that a £5 million deal could prove to be a major bargain.
