Championship play-off semi-finalists West Brom have said they will not sign Dwight Gayle this summer, according to the BBC.
They report that the Baggies are unwilling to pay Gayle’s wages – which Spotrac claim at £40,000 per week – because it’s not in the best interests of the club financially.
That has raised the prospect that Gayle – fresh from scoring 24 goals in all competitions at the Hawthorns last season – will be a Newcastle player when next season kicks off.
Salomon Rondon came the other way as part of a loan swap deal during the summer, and it remains to be seen how West Brom’s decision impacts that situation.

But Newcastle fans cannot seem to agree on Twitter over whether that’s a good thing or not. Some think that the club can move on from a player who has never set the world alight.
Others feel that Gayle deserves another crack of the whip, that he has more to offer than what he’s shown and at the very least would be a better backup than the likes of Joselu.
We’ve put together the best of the reaction to an issue that has split the Newcastle fans who are waiting to see which direction their summer will take…
