Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly re-entered the frame for Paulo Fonseca – leaving Newcastle United fans frustrated at the prospect of missing out.
Fonseca, 48, has reportedly spoken to Newcastle over the role – as the club’s new owners continue to scour the market for Steve Bruce’s replacement.
The Portuguese boss has been without work since being replaced by Jose Mourinho at Roma. He enjoyed a couple of decent seasons in Serie A.
But Fonseca largely made his name at Shakhtar Donetsk where he won three league titles in three seasons – winning 103 of his 139 games.
The Guardian report that Fonseca has spoken to Newcastle and remains an option for the Toon’s new owners. But Spurs are said to be interested.
The Standard say that Fonseca, 48, is still a target for Tottenham – despite Spurs going in for Nuno Espirito Santo instead of Fonseca in the summer.

What are Newcastle fans saying as Tottenham eye Fonseca?
Fonseca is a top gaffer, and looks destined for the Premier League. He kept Roma afloat during transition, and masterminded Shakhtar pressure.
So, Newcastle’s new owners taking their time to bring Fonseca to Tyneside is a strange one. Newcastle is a brilliant opportunity, at the moment.
Little surprise Fonseca will want to join. But why Newcastle are biding their time is strange. Tottenham could now pip them to the post.
Nuno’s time is in danger, according to Fabrizio Romano, and Fonseca could end up at Tottenham – to the frustration of Newcastle fans on Twitter.
