Newcastle fans react as Toon owners reportedly eye four-goal striker

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is the latest name to be linked with a move to Newcastle United ahead of the January window. A striker is not likely to be a priority, but many Newcastle fans would love Dembele on Tyneside.

Dembele, 25, could be looking for a move away from Lyon. The French striker has entered the last 18 months of his contract with the Ligue 1 side – after spending the second half of last season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Clocking up 120 appearances for Lyon since his move from Celtic, he is just one goal shy of reaching 50 – while also laying on 14 assists. Certainly, he is considered one of the best strikers in French football at present.

Newcastle are interested. That is according to The Mail, who say that Lyon would be ready to sell the striker if an agreeable fee was tabled. A £30million permanent clause was included in his Atletico loan move.

What are Newcastle fans saying as Dembele added to Toon shortlist?

Newcastle’s priority needs to be defenders. They are expected to bring in a central defender or two in January, and Kieran Trippier looks more and more likely to move to Tyneside from Atletico Madrid.

But after that, the Toon do lack cover for Callum Wilson – especially with Joelinton playing in other positions. Dwight Gayle is expected to leave and could do so next month. So, a second striker might be ideal.

Would Dembele be happy to compete with England striker Wilson, meaning he might not play every week? Probably not. But Newcastle fans think he would be a top signing in the January window.
