Newcastle United are being linked with a potential swoop for Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded by claiming they don’t want to sign him.
According to French publication Foot Mercato, the Magpies have made an enquiry for the 28-year-old, who is also attracting interest during the January transfer window from Marseille.
The report explains that Monaco are open to selling the right-back, with the Ligue 1 outfit valuing him between £4.5 million and £6.3 million.
Sidibe is a right-back by trade that spent last season on loan in the Premier League with Everton, but returned to parent club Monaco in the summer.
The Frenchman has played just 10 games across all competitions so far this campaign, showing his versatility by slotting in as a centre-back and left-back when required.
He’s an experienced star that was part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup, but was steady during his time at Goodison Park with Everton without being spectacular.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media are underwhelmed with speculation linking them to Sidibe, who they don’t want to see join them at St James’ Park.
He’s a defender with strong pace, power and experience, but is certainly rash in his tackling and decision-making.
