Newcastle fans react as Pickford reveals he was affected by them in 3-2 defeat

It’s fair to say that Jordan Pickford did not have the best of afternoons when Everton travelled to face Newcastle at St James’ Park earlier this month.

The former Sunderland stopper, who Spotrac claim earns £100,000 a week at Goodison Park, gave away a first-half penalty after losing his head and fouling Salomon Rondon.

Somehow he escaped a red card and saved Matt Ritchie’s spot kick but that only delayed Newcastle’s comeback as Everton threw away a two-goal lead in the second half to lose 3-2.

Pickford has now admitted to the Newcastle Chronicle that the reception from the St James’ Park faithful ‘got to him’ and that he won’t be suckered into all that next time.

But the Newcastle fans are buzzing; they feel they got inside a former Sunderland player’s head, helping their side back into the game and winding him up in the process.

There was plenty of gleeful reaction to Pickford’s comments and we’ve put together the best of it as the stopper gears up to take his place between the sticks for England against the Czech Republic tonight…
