Miguel Almiron was shown a red card during Paraguay’s 4-2 friendly loss to Mexico in the early hours of Wednesday morning with a horror tackle – and Newcastle fans are stunned on Twitter.
The 25-year-old star has impressed since joining Newcastle from MLS side Atlanta United. He has helped Newcastle win three of his six appearances. They have scored 10 goals in those six games, but only 21 in the previous 25 games.
Making his 14th cap for Paraguay, Almiron came off the bench in the 56th minute with his country losing 3-1. But just seven minutes later, he was given his marching orders.

Almiron seemingly scraped his studs down Santos Laguna midfielder Jose Juan Vazquez’s calf, in a stamping motion. The referee had little choice but to give Almiron a red card.
Mexico went on to win the match with the numerical advantage, with West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez getting his name on the score sheet. But it was a night to forget for Almiron.
Newcastle fans took to Twitter after hearing of the news that Almiron had been sent off, and many reacted in quite a comical manner. Many reckon Newcastle has already had a lasting impact on the South American sensation.
