Miguel Almiron has been quoted by the Chronicle as saying that it is an “honour” to be linked with a move to Real Madrid – and Newcastle United fans are worried he has played his last game for the club.
The Daily Mirror have claimed that Real Madrid have taken a shine to the 25-year-old playmaker, who Newcastle spent a club-record fee of £21million on in the January transfer window.
It is believed that The Toon could make an immediate £14million profit on the Paraguay international, who managed just 10 Premier League appearances before suffering an injury towards the end of the campaign.
Currently representing his country at the Copa America, Almiron was asked if he would be tempted with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu – and although he said it was an honour to be linked, he said his focus is on Paraguay.

“No, I do not know anything about that,” Almiron replied, when asked if he had heard about Real’s interest.
“For me it’s an honour that a team like that [Real Madrid] looks at me, but I’m not aware of anything and now I’m focused on the Copa America, and then Newcastle .”
The links may come as somewhat of a shock, given Almiron’s lack of enormous impact at Newcastle should have hardly tempted one of the biggest clubs in the world. But has has laid on two assists in three Copa America games.
Newcastle fans reacted to Almiron’s comments on Twitter on Thursday, with many concerned that their club-record signing could be about to leave the club just six months after first joining.
