The Times have claimed Manchester United are interested in signing Salomon Rondon before Friday’s 11pm deadline from Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang – and Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter to the news.
The coronavirus has swept across China with every region of the country being affected after a case in Tibet was confirmed. It has seen the Chinese Super League cancel the start date of the new 2020 league season, with a new date yet to be revealed.
That has led to a number of players supposedly considering their future in China, with 170 deaths from the virus and almost 8000 confirmed cases (BBC). Rondon, 30, could be one of those players – despite just 12 outings for Rafa Benitez’s Yifang.
Rondon, 30, starred for Newcastle during 2018-19 – playing a crucial role in Newcastle’s survival. He scored 12 goals in 33 games, as well as laying on seven assists under Benitez – who he then joined in China for £16.5million (Times).
The report claims Manchester United were close to signing Krzysztof Piatek on an 18-month loan deal from AC Milan with a permanent clause included. Instead, Piatek is moving to Hertha Berlin for £23million.
That has seen Manchester United look to take advantage of the coronavirus and bring Rondon from China to Old Trafford to ease their striker woes. Many Newcastle fans have reacted to United’s reported interest on Twitter.

Why'd we let him go in the first place?

Mike, have your people call Rondon's people and bring him back from China. Keeps him playing while China works to control coronavirus, and gets @NUFC scoring goals again!

Rondon’s nowhere near finished. Such a robust player for his age, efficient in the role he provides and does score goals
