Newcastle are closing in on a swoop for Lille’s Portuguese international defender Edgar Le, according to TRT Spor, via Sport Witness.
They report that Le is set to move to St James’ Park as soon as the deal for the Ligue 1 club to sign Yusuf Yazıcı from Trabzonspor goes through.
Le can play centre half or right back and spent the second half of last season on loan at Nantes. At 25, he has time to improve, but it remains to be seen if he can come in and instantly boost Newcastle’s defence.
Newcastle have plundered the French market in the past and look like they’re returning to that transfer policy again under Steve Bruce, with Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley always on the hunt for bargains above everything.

Newcastle supporters are, on the whole, not particularly enthused by the idea of signing Le, given the club’s mixed history of signing players from the French league.
They feel it’s reminiscent of the Alan Pardew era and feel their club needs more than the bargain-hunting policy of scouring Ligue 1 for players during a summer where they need instant upgrades – and fast.
