Kevin Mbabu has completed a move from Swiss outfit Young Boys to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for a bargain fee of just £8million (Sky Sports) – and that has left Newcastle fans infuriated.
The 24-year-old defender left Newcastle in the summer of 2017 for a nominal fee, returning to his home country with Switzerland. He has since shone for Young Boys, even becoming a part of his national team.
He has clocked up 96 appearances in all competitions in the past two seasons, scoring five goals and contributing 15 assists in that time. He even helped his side beat Juventus 2-1 in the Champions League group stage this term.
Plenty was made of the ex-Newcastle star’s future, with only 12 months remaining on his Young Boys contract. But Wolfsburg have won the race for his signature, confirming the signing on their Twitter account.

Mbabu only ever played five times for Newcastle’s senior side but struggled to break into Rafa Benitez’s first team. The Spaniard is not known for his faith in youth, with only Sean Longstaff breaking through the ranks of late.
Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Mbabu had moved to Wolfsburg from Young Boys, and many expressed their frustration that he was not given a chance at St. James’ Park.

Could have been a real talent for @NUFC. Showed touches of his potential, but best of luck to him. Would have loved to have him as a right back option.
