Joelinton failed to add to his goal tally as Newcastle United were beaten by Burnley.
Newcastle fell to a 1-0 defeat at Turf Moor as Chris Wood headed in the only goal. The Magpies had some chances but were unable to break down the hosts.
Joelinton has only scored one goal this season but Steve Bruce has admitted he was playing out of position. With Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle both struggling with injuries, Joelinton was playing in the centre-forward role.
Joelinton moves out wide
The Brazilian forward can also play on the wing so Bruce decided to give him a chance against Burnley. Joelinton played on the flank with Carroll through the middle. But the 23-year-old struggled to exert his influence.
There was one moment when Joelinton nearly made a difference. He robbed Erik Pieters, collected the ball on the right flank and slipped a low ball into the box. It was too good for the Burnley defence and Gayle probably should have scored.
Other than that moment, though, Joelinton was criticised for his performance. Here are some tweets about his display.
There’s a reason Rafa didn’t want to pay £40-mil for Joelinton. He is actually worse on the wing #NUFC

I don’t get what he brings? Doesn’t hold it up, doesn’t take on a man, isn’t that quick, isn’t great in the air 🤷🏼♂️

Aye hoping this ends the “Joelinton plays out wide” argument 🙄

I know he’s still young…but I’m struggling to see what qualities they saw in him to warrant that price tag. Usually having close control or good link-up play is a sign of a player that can develop…but they can’t have seen much of that in him at Hoffenheim?! 😕
