Newcastle fans react as Javier Manquillo shines in FA Cup win over West Brom

Newcastle United produced an excellent display to beat Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion 3-2 at The Hawthorns, qualifying for the FA Cup quarter finals – and Newcastle fans have reacted to Javi Manquillo’s efforts.

The Toon came into the match after a difficult run of Premier League results, failing to win in their last five and last scoring a league goal in January. However, that all changed on Tuesday night as The Toon came out all guns blazing.

Both sides made a number of changes, but it was Newcastle who came out on top as they flew into a 2-0 lead at the break – thanks to a brace from the ever-improving Miguel Almiron. He took his tally to six goals for the season.

A brilliant run and finish from Allan Saint-Maximin saw Almiron score expertly with his first touch, before the Paraguay international doubled his tally with a stunning finish that flew into the top corner – after a backheel by Joelinton.

New signing Valentino Lazaro made it three just after the restart, after Jonathan Bond dropped a cross from Saint-Maximin. Matt Phillips scored inside the last 20 minutes, before Kenneth Zohore scored a second in injury time. Manquillo, though, was solid throughout the 90 minutes.

A £4.5million signing (Sun), Manquillo has entered the final four months of his current contract at Newcastle and many supporters were delighted with his display – while some want a new deal for the defender.
