Michael Chopra started off his career at Newcastle United and has spoken to TalkSport about the current state of affairs at his old club.
Where many in the media have dodged the issue of Mike Ashley’s ownership, Chopra hit it head on and with searing honesty.
He said: “What [Ashley]’s done to that football club is a disgrace. The fans are putting their foot down, they’ve had enough. It’s like a disease, every year it’s getting worse and worse.
“I don’t think he wants to (sell). They’ve gone from Rafa Benitez, a world class manager to Steve Bruce, who is a mediocre Championship manager now, not good enough for the Premier League any more.”

Loads of Newcastle fans took to Twitter to hail Chopra for being so honest about the state of the club and hitting at the heart of the issues there.
At a time when there’s not too much to cheer about for the Newcastle support, they at least enjoyed seeing one of their former players hit the nail squarely on the head and give a voice to the fans in the media.
