Newcastle United wonderkid Elliot Anderson gave fans a glimpse of his talent last night.
Anderson scored his first goal for the U23s in the EFL Trophy clash against Port Vale. The young Magpies might have lost 2-1 but Anderson can take pride in his personal performance.
With a few players away on international duty, Newcastle were forced to ring the changes. Anderson was one of several players who stepped up from the U18 team to the U23s on Tuesday night.
The 17-year-old, who recently signed his first professional deal, had played in three competitive matches for the U23s before. However, the Scotland U18 starlet was handed his first start against Port Vale. He didn’t let his coaches down, scoring a header from Jamie Sterry’s cross.
Anderson targets more U23 game time

Anderson shared his joy after the game. He told nufc.co.uk: “I was buzzing to score! It’s been a good couple of weeks for me after signing my professional contract but I know I need to keep working hard to get more opportunities like this. I just want to stay around the under-23 squad and try to get more minutes.”
Here are some Newcastle fans reacting to Anderson’s goal.
