Newcastle fans react as defender Jetro Willems would reportedly be open to rejoining

Newcastle United are being linked with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Jetro Willems – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by claiming they would love to see make a permanent switch to St James’ Park.

The 26-year-old spent the whole of last season on loan with the Magpies, but sat the second half of the campaign on the sidelines through injury.

He’s now returned to parent Bundesliga club Frankfurt in Germany and is still working his way back from a long-term knee problem.

According to the Chronicle, the left-back is out of contract with Frankfurt at the end of the season with no new contract on the table and at the moment his future is up in the air.

The report claims that the Dutch full-back would be open to a move back to St James’ Park to return to English football, but Newcastle want to see him prove his fitness first.

It is understood that Willems is closing in on his return from injury and could be available for a “nominal fee” in January, alternatively on a free transfer next summer.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media believe that Willems would be a good signing:
