Newcastle United have terminated the contract of midfielder Ki Sung-yueng.
The former South Korean international has officially left St. James’ Park after 18 months after joining on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old made 23 appearances in total for the Magpies, with just four coming in 2019/20.

Speaking about his departure to the club’s official website, he said: “I am always grateful for our fans’ support.
“It was a great honour and happiness of mine to play for such a great club as Newcastle United.”
Ki suffered as a result of a number of injury problems during his time up north, and the emergence of the Longstaff brothers didn’t help his cause.
Isaac Hayden also became key under Rafa Benitez and has played the majority of games under Steve Bruce this term.

The search is now on for Ki to find a new club, and the fact he is now a free agent again means he will be able to complete a move outside of the January transfer window.
Both of his former clubs in Celtic and Swansea City have shown an interest in re-signing Ki, but the player would surely have to be open to playing for less than the £40,000-a-week he was just on at Newcastle (Spotrac).
Newcastle fans react
The general consensus on social media was that Newcastle fans are somewhat sorry to see Ki depart the club, despite not really playing too many games during his 18 months at the club:
