Newcastle fans react as club reportedly want PSG star Abdou Diallo, owners ‘keen’

Newcastle United are reportedly looking to lure PSG defender Abdou Diallo to St. James’ Park in January – and Toon fans have reacted on Twittre.

Diallo, 25, is on the fringes at PSG after clocking up just 68 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the two and a half years he has spent there.

Joining from Dortmund for £27m, Diallo has not become first choice like he might have hoped. He has played just two of the last eight league games.

Newcastle need a left-back and have done for some while. Jamal Lewis, a £15million signing in the summer of 2020, has played twice this season.

A new left-back could be one of the new owners’ first port of call and Diallo, a five-time Senegal international, is on their radar – as per Foot Mercato.

Back in the summer, Spanish newspaper Marca claimed PSG were open to his exit. It is believed that PSG would sell him for a fee of £21million.

What makes Diallo an ideal addition for Newcastle, is two things. Firstly, he can play on the left of a back-three and as a wing back.

He has the pace and technical abilities to get forward, but the physical attributes and defensive mindset to play as one of three at the back.

That, and Newcastle’s lack of quality in that area. Paul Dummett is the main example, but he was far from Newcastle’s best in the Championship.

It is also questionable as to whether Ciaran Clark is Premier League standard. Newcastle fans want Diallo signed, amid the reports.
