Newcastle fans react as club reportedly join Tottenham in race for Leicester star

Newcastle United have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Leicester City midfielder Demarai Gray as the transfer window opens on Monday – and Toon fans have responded on Twitter.

Gray, 24, has endured a difficult season at Leicester – starting just eight of his 29 league and cup games. Despite a lack of opportunities under Brendan Rodgers, he has had a hand in eight goals, scoring three and creating five.

A Premier League winner with Leicester since joining the club in January 2016, Gray has played 167 times in all competitions for Leicester since his £3.5million move (ESPN). Now, he has entered the year of his contract.

The Telegraph claim that Newcastle are interested with Steve Bruce an admirer of the England Under-21 international – who has been called up to the senior side for a friendly against Switzerland in November 2018.

The Toon are said to be interested takeover or not, but they may face Tottenham as competition in the race to sign Gray. The Times claim Jose Mourinho wants to take the Birmingham-born winger to north London.

Newcastle supporters reacted on Twitter to reports that they were interested in raiding Rodgers’ Leicester for Gray, and many are of the opinion that the English wide man would be a good addition.
