Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard but face competition for the England star’s signature in the coming weeks – and Toon fans have responded on Twitter.
The 27-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract at United, the club where he came through the academy and graduated into the senior side. He has since clocked up 205 senior appearances for United.
But The Times state that he is in the final year of his £100,000-a-week contract and with United seemingly unwilling to extend that offer – Lingard is hoping that his recent form since the restart will attract potential suitors.
Newcastle are touted as an option for Lingard with Steve Bruce looking to raid his former side. It is unclear how much he will be worth, but The Mirror recently claimed that he is rated in the region of £20million.
However, Newcastle are not alone in their pursuit of Lingard with Italian giants Roma interested – as well as Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. It remains to be seen if Lingard wants to abroad, or stay in England.
Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Lingard is a target for Bruce and Manchester United, but the majority are not impressed. One fan claimed he was the ‘English Atsu’
